THE Meralco Bolts, a recharged, powered-up squad from a semifinal finish in the Philippine Cup, finally start their campaign in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup, tangling with the Converge FiberXers on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The team motto is “Charge Forward,” and the Bolts are determined to execute it, looking to hit the ground running in their 7:30 p.m. face-off with the FiberXers who are blooded by an overtime loss to the Terrafirma Dyip on Saturday.

From their Philippine Cup semis windup, the Bolts have had their roster upgrade on the arrival of Jason Brickman, Vic Magbuhos and trade acquisition Javee Mocon.

And there’s the entry of import Marvin Jones with his 7-0 ceiling and a stellar resume that includes being a 2025 FIBA Europe Cup champion with extensive playing experience in Greece, Slovenia, Spain, Montenegro and more.

He’ll be up against fellow 7-0 Kylor Kelley in a matchup that could be a best representation of an expected physical, rebound-heavy game, with the Bolts trying to grind it down and the FiberXers looking to run.

The FiberXers had an auspicious conference start with a 102-94 drubbing of the Macau Black Knights but then suffered a sudden breakdown, going down to a 100-111 loss to the Dyip after they went scoreless in the extra period.

And so they seek a quick turnaround, with Kelley, Alec Stockton, Juan Gomez de Liano, Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar leading their squad versus the Meralco side tipped to run better with a core group now backstopped by a legit playmaker in Brickman.

The Fil-Am guard, 34, led the US NCAA in assists twice and played in Russia and Germany before moving to Asia in 2015.  He saw action in Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan before finally landing in the PBA. His experience and court smarts could well be key in Meralco’s bid to go far in the playoffs.

Meralco’s fresh looks include Mocon who adds a versatile defender/slasher who can swing between 2-3 and help on the glass.

The last time these two teams clashed during the Philippine Cup, Meralco ran away with a 105-84 win behind a 33-7 first quarter and a career-high 29-point sizzler from CJ Cansino.(SB)
